Evaluation

I am here to mention ways in which my video profile got started, explaining what went well and areas that didn't go so well.

To get started planning and critical thinking was taken into consideration to list several ways for my video profile to stand out and look unique. As a class we went over the five shot rule, which includes close up shot, close up of the hand, over the shoulder shot, long shot and a medium shot; this gave me the idea of an establishing over the shoulder walking into the college which will later be mentioned in the script about what I attend. Due to the amount of props which where available to my use, some ideas where unachievable.

The first steps of my video profile creation was to create a mind map including ideas of what I could include into my video profile, I eventually decided to base my video on me and my personal life: mentioning not only myself but my immediate family members. I later created a script which conveys my personality in the way that I talk, this would create a positive personal touch which would connect with the audience. As the time scale was on my case I was unable to add more to my script, this meant I was unable to include my hobbies and interests and add external images and videos.

My video profile starts of with a voice over pan shot, 'Welcome To The City Of Westminster College' and follows with a wide walking track shot, unfortunately this shot wasn't a great success as my head got cut out the frame and loads of friction was created due to the bumpy surface that the camera stand was on. This shot could have been recorded again but time was wasted due lack of concentration throughout the 6 week introduction period as my previous recordings and ideas was not up to scratch, but could have been prevented if I learnt how to use and create original shots with the camera. My video profile edit was shorter than expected as I ran out of original ideas but watching other user generated videos could have helped me with ideas of what to include into my video profile and extend the length.

Another downside was the different outfits changes as I recorded on different days as I was trying to think of original shots/ideas.

As I had a strict time schedule to stick to, this meant I had less time to edit my video and include spacial effects not knowing how to navigate the software; therefore having to stick to a simple edit of my video. However I was able to include a track that related to my video, 'I Love College' this made my video slightly more interesting to watch besides the quality of some shots.

Legal and Ethical
What does 'copyright' mean?
  • Copyright is a legal document enacted by governments, giving the Creator of their original creation the soul exclusive rights of the distribution of their product for a certain time period, after which the work enters public domain.
Give three examples of different things which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
  • Costume > My jacket in which I could wear can include and original created logo so that other designers cannot copy the same logo.
  • Background Music > I could create my own music to go along with the different camera angles.
  • Script > I could put copyright on my script as I am going to include unique phrases.
List two websites that give copyright free music:
List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:
Explain what a location release form is and why it it needed for filming?
  • A location release form is a form allowing and individual, the legal rights to film or indicate where photography is allowed.  For example, if you are shooting a piece at a high school, it is a good idea to have a representative of the high school fill out and sign the location release.  If someone down the road recognizes the school on your footage and wants to complain or worse, you will have this document to prove you were allowed to shoot there.
What is a contributor release form and why is it required?
  • A contributor release form is a form which all actors and actresses have to sign to who will appear in your film, giving you the rights to use their performances in your film and related marketing. This is required so that film directors, are not fined using an actors/ actresses work without their permission.

User Generated Video Analysis 2

Charlie bit me...

Charlie bit me has become a world wide phenomenon with views reaching 2, 861, 269 and is still constantly available for people to receive and view. This video was produced non professionally in the home of a normal individual. This video contains file compression as the video sequence is very pixellated making it unclear for other viewers wanting to watch the video; it is also evident that the video was shot with a low resolution camera due to some moments when the video is catching up the pace of the speech in the video. This video has been shot in a steady medium shot which enables the viewer to see the facial expressions and body language of the character in the recording.
