What is the purpose of Channel Identification?
Channel identification is a constant practice of radio or television stations or networks on identifying themselves mainly through brand names, identifying the audience into specific categories E.G. Age, gender, race, ethnicity and culture. It is vital that the companies such as the BBC and E4 to guide their viewers in the right direction to watching their shows, indents are used to be recognised quickly and easily. As brands and labels help people make choices more easily for example in the early 80's their used to be 1000 product lines in supermarkets and now their are up to 100,000 brands meaning they have to stand out from others to gain profits; this also relates to the television market as their only use to be 1 to 4 channels and then in the mid 90's channel 5 was then launched and then following in 1989 Sky was launched serving multiple channels to gain the viewers interest. Linked media is the network space.
